Kavros was once a fertile farming land, and the farmers planted mainly peanuts, melons and potatoes in the wide plain.

In the tavernas traditional Cretan kitchen for reasonable prices can be found. The touristic centre of Kavros is located both sides of the National Road: the main entrances of the large beach hotels on one side, a wealth of shops, tavernas and café-bars on the opposite side.

The new name of the village is 'Kournas Beach', not yet found on any street signs.

Today this once farming land and not historical grown place has become an area with touristic infrastructure and the farmers welcome the holiday guests who enjoy the kilometer long sandy/shingly beach.
