Die Lefka Ori (Weißen Berge) erheben sich hinter Chania bis Georgioupolis und fallen zum Libyschen Meer nach Sfakia hin ab. Sie bestehen aus über 40 Gipfeln über 2000 Metern Höhe, zwölf Gipfel sind höher als 2200 Meter. Damit ist es die größte und schneereichste Gebirgsregion auf Kreta.
Diese Berge haben viele Schluchten und Felsgänge für Naturbegeisterte. 
Um die Region Sfakia hat die Lefka Ori die höchsten Gipfel - Pachnes (2450 m),
Troharis (2409m) und den Kastro (2218m), auf dem Foto links im Hintergrund.
